DSFCU Rated Among Top In Credit Union
Performance
As cited in a March 2004 News Release
from BauerFinancial, the nation's leading independent
credit union rating firm (//bauerfinancial.com) Diamond
State Federal Credit Union has earned their coveted
"Recommended" rating again, for the 54th
consecutive quarter. (The award is based on an
analysis of current financial data as supplied by federal
regulators, supplemented by historical data.)

"We constantly receive phone
calls from people worried about where they are
putting their money; and with good reason.
With rogue institutions popping up on the internet
and elsewhere, many falsely claiming to be federally
insured, it's important to know there are still
principled people running good, solid financial
institutions. [DSFCU] is a prime example [of]
a credit union you can have confidence in."

DSFCU.org's Web Security
Offers
Peace of Mind
Secure Socket
Layers (SSL) give you peace of mind when conducting sensitive
activities over the Web by encrypting data such as social
security numbers and other types of personal or financial
information.
SSL works by using a "public key" to encrypt data
that's transferred by submitting forms over the SSL connection.
Both Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer support SSL, and
many websites use this protocol when users submit confidential
information from the site. By convention, URL's that require an
SSL connection start with " https"
instead of "http"
and on these "secure" pages, you should see small
icons ( for Microsoft Internet Explorer and
for Netscape Navigator) in the status bar (the very
bottom of your browser). So, if you're concerned if the
form you're about to submit is going to be submitted securely,
check for these icons and look at the address field of your
browser to see if the URL begins (example):

Stop
Unwanted Solicitations
If you're being bothered by
telephone solicitors or overwhelmed by junk mail and e-mail, you
can now take steps to reduce the problem. Here are some tips:
Call Opt Out at 888-567-8688 to remove your name
from lists that are generated by major credit reporting bureaus
for credit offers, reducing pre-approved inquiries on your
credit report. This will also help prevent and protect you from
identity theft and fraud. The process is simple and only takes a
few minutes. You can choose to have your name removed for two
years or permanently.
Send a postcard to register to be deleted from most
advertisement mailing lists. Include your name and address,
along with your signature.
Mail Preference Svc.,
Direct Marketing Assoc.
P O Box 9008
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008
To stop most
unwanted telephone solicitations, register to be deleted from
most telemarketing call lists by sending a post card including
your name, address, telephone number and signature to:
Telephone Preference Svc.,
Direct Marketing Assoc.
PO Box 9014
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9014
You may have told telemarketers repeatedly to stop
calling, but still you get the calls. There is legislation
prohibiting calls if you request they stop. You must, however,
get in the habit of using the following specific verbiage
"Place Me on your Do Not Call List". These words are
the only ones that they are required to accept to stop calling
you.
To remove your e-mail address from marketing lists,
visit www.e-MPS.org. You may
enter up to 3 e-mail addresses on which you wish to suppress
junk e-mail. Following the prompts and clicking on the
"Remove my e-mail address" button will substantially
reduce unwanted e-mail.
Another invasive and annoying advertising problem,
Pop-Ups, can be curtailed by visiting www.panicware.com on the web
and downloading their free pop-up stopper software.

The
Credit Union Suffers the Loss of a Chairman
Alan F. Simpson, Chairman of the
Board of Directors, died on Friday, July 2, 2004, at Christiana
Hospital. Mr. Simpson, a communications engineer by
profession, was employed by the former Bell Atlantic Telephone
Company (now Verizon) for 34 years until his retirement in
1990. Alan also served his country in the National Guard
and after retirement worked for NUCAR Chevrolet.
Alan had served on the Board of Directors for the Credit Union
since 1981, as Treasurer and most recently has Chairman.
He was instrumental in the growth and success of the
organization. Sadly, Alan will not see the results of his
efforts with the opening of the new branch office in the Chase
Manhattan Centre located in downtown Wilmington.
Alan's goal was for the Credit Union to be the "Primary
Financial Institution for all of its members." Alan's
calm, yet humorous approach will be greatly missed at the board
meetings and around the office.
Alan's wife of 27 years, Judy, was appointed to the Board of
Directors at the July meeting. Judy had been serving as
chair on the Loan Review Committee until this appointment.
In addition to Alan's wife, Judy, he is survived by two
children, Bonnie Jennings and Matthew David Simpson; four
stepsons, Edward Ellis, Gregory Ellis, C. Patrick Ellis and John
Ellis; brother, Clyde Simpson; eighteen grandchildren and one
great grandchild.
